2003 Taylor 514ce Acoustic Guitar $2,575

2003 Taylor 514ce acoustic guitar with case

ser#20030116108  Excellent plus condition vintage 2003 Taylor 514ce acoustic guitar with electronics which were upgraded (by the Taylor certified tech) to the then latest spec modern piezo ES2 electronic system in 2014. This is a very warm resonant guitar with low action that plays perfectly, the best 514 I’ve ever heard or played which is why we featured it, Cedar top mahogany back and sides, cutaway, hardshell case, very lightweight 4.4 lbs. Purchase from the original owner. The nut and saddle of the guitar was upgraded by original owner to a bone variant (mammoth tusk) for increased sustain and resonance which significantly increases tonality of the guitar. This older, vintage 514ce sounds more resonant than the the newer ones due to the aging of the wood.

HISTORY
The original owner purchased the guitar from a shop in Charleston, SC new in 2004. Later he played this guitar while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston for Music Production and Engineering. He became friends with an A-list luthier who was certified by Taylor as well as other major guitar companies and had him upgrade the nut and saddle for increased sustain and resonance. He used a bone variant (mammoth tusk) for the saddle which is rare and actually significantly increases tonality of the guitar. He liked this modification so much that he had it done to all of his guitars with different variations on the bone stock. The bridge itself (sans the saddle) is completely original. There’s a lot of hype around the new bracing technology, but it is simply a sonic preference. One style of architecture lends itself more to one playing style or another, but one is not inherently better than the other. This has been made clear by both Taylor and many of the Nashville players that I know, and also evidenced by the fact that Taylor still offers both styles. Also worth noting is that the electronics were upgraded (by the Taylor certified tech) to the then latest spec including the more modern piezo system in 2014.
